There's someone I know who didn't like history classes in school who might find this article interesting.
I didn't like history classes all that much either, but then again, I didn't like most of my classes all that much. Toynbee's book was interesting though.

the thing i disliked the most was memorizing dates and names. we only learned enough about the event to figure out what date and name we needed to put on the test. most of my history teachers were successful in removing all humanity from history. one teacher was really good at associating the events of one country with the events in the rest of the world. too bad she was my last history teacher
