I use google for most stuff, but I use A9 once in a while for the 'search-inside-the-book' feature. Sometimes I can find stuff that google doesn't give me.
For general use it's probably not inferior to google. In fact I think it uses google for web searches. If you prefer A9's interface, or if it has some feature you like, I know of no reason not to use it.
