meet the new boss again

Commentor tseib at Lileks (edited):
"...the attitude many Baby Boomers ultimately took toward the world of freedom and prosperity their parents' generation had secured for them. Having grown up never knowing want, and in line to inherit a post-war world of unparalleled material comfort..., they shunned their parents' straight life of compliance and conspicuous consumption (at least for a time) for adventure, self-expression, and non-conformity. Fifty years later, they ARE the establishment and - while still picturing themselves as rebellious rock-and-rollers - seek to impose a conformity of political correctness (and a hierarchy of authority with their college-educated selves as the obvious rulers over the blue-collar deplorables) far more proscribed and authoritarian than anything their parents could have dreamed up."
